The Band

Shig Shag has been on the Dallas scene for over eight years. Original members Steve Richey and Bart Sloan played with now-defunct garage rockers Haggis ("The Band That Sounds As Good As It Tastes") from roughly 1996 through 1999. They formed Shig Shag in 1999 with drummer Jeff Sanders and had the great pleasure of playing with a succession of talented guitarists and vocalists over the years. But in the immortal words of David St. Hubbins, lead guitar player for the legendary Spinal Tap:

"[Y]ou've got to understand that, like, in the world of rock and roll there are certain changes that sometimes occur, and you've just got to, sort of, roll with them, you know. I mean you read . . . you read . . . you saw exactly how many people who's been in the band over the years, 37 people's been in this band over the years . . . ."

In 2004, the band kicked it up a notch with the addition of power vocalist and keyboardist extraordinaire Melissa Collins. Soon thereafter, perky vocalist (and perpetual American Idol also-ran) Sara Kuklenski joined to round out the current ensemble.

Shig Shag has played a variety of venues and events, from club gigs (including its "home away from home," the Lakewood Bar & Grill in East Dallas) to benefit functions (including the Granada Theater and Sons of Hermann Hall) to weddings and other private events. Through the years, Shig Shag has maintained its commitment to performing an eclectic mix of modern and retro material, both familiar and obscure, that satisfies the band's motto: "Playing Songs People Like."
