Somewhere between the hills of Kentucky and Nashville, Melissa took a wrong turn and ended up in Dallas. Since her southern accent fit right in, she decided to stay for awhile.
Learning her first song at the ripe old age of two, she drove her parents crazy by singing that same song (over and over) all the way to the Grand Canyon and back to Kentucky. Over the years, her mother helped Melissa hone her vocal skills and encouraged her to take piano lessons. Her first piano was drawn on a piece of cardboard big enough for two octaves.
Her first paying gig (for a cool $25), at a very seasoned 9 years of age, was the 1st Annual Slone Mountain Squirrel Festival. Her set list included her most requested songs, "Sleeping Single in a Double Bed," and "Coal Miner's Daughter."
After performing for years as a solo artist in Kentucky, Melissa joined an all-girl group, Doris Daze, shortly after arriving in Dallas. After a successful run with the girls, Melissa took some time off to write and was ready to get back onstage. She got in touch with the guys from Shig Shag, and once they discovered she could operate the talking beer opener with ease, she was in.
Melissa is now producing a movie entitled, "Hillbillies Gone Wild." Word on the street is, she's looking for a few good folks willing to chase a greased pig.
